Professional Conversion Programme (PCP)

As part of the Adapt and Grow Initiative, Workforce Singapore (WSG) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) jointly developed the Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) to help Professionals, Managers, Executives, and Technicians (PMETs) mid-career switchers undergo skills conversion to gain relevant competencies and take on new, exciting careers in different industries.


Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS) is the appointed programme manager for PCP in the retail sector, assisting and supporting employers with manpower challenges in the face of the ever-changing retail landscape. Through structured classroom and on-the-job training (OJT), retailers are better able to align their training according to their specific business needs.


SIRS offers a range of Professional Conversion Programmes (PCPs) in the Retail sector,for the Retail Professional, Digital Professional and New Media Professional, to equip Professionals, Managers, Executives, and Technicians (PMETs) transiting into these new careers with the right skillsets and support employers to attract talents for enterprise capability building.  

SIRS offers the following PCP tracks:

PCP - Retail Professional (PCP - RP)

PMET mid-career switchers will undergo skills conversion to embark on a career in retail such as Operations, Customer Service or Supply Chain job roles, to assist retailers to meet growing consumers’ expectations and to deliver a memorable customer journey.

Under the PCP - RP, participants will complete the following modules from the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Diploma in Retail (Operations):

  1. Global Mindset
  2. Retailing and the Economy
  3. Sales Target Management
  4. Service Leadership
  5. Workplace Communication

PCP - Digital Professional (PCP - DP)

PMET mid-career switchers will be reskilled with the necessary competencies to move into new occupations in retail such as Online Business or E-commerce Business Development job roles, to assist retailers to digitalise their business and to provide seamless O2O integration.

Under the PCP - DP, participants will have to complete the following programmes:

  1. Digital Commerce Operations
  2. Omni-Commerce Retail
  3. Digital Commerce Visual

PCP - New Media Professional (PCP - NMP)

Live broadcast is gaining traction as it becomes a popular and effective way to engage customers. To keep abreast of the new trend and support employers to develop their media communication for digital commerce, the new PCP track aims to groom new media enthusiasts into professionals with the relevant skills, such as storytelling and video production, to help employers engage with their fan communities in their marketing and promotional campaigns.

Under the PCP - NMP, participants will have to complete the following programmes:

  1. Digital Commerce Operations
  2. Digital Commerce Visual
  3. Singapore Media Academy's Making Online Content Programme

Funding and Salary Support

Salary Support

  • Up to 70% of monthly salary for PCP training duration, capped at $4,000 per month, for Singapore Citizens/PRs below age of 40.
  • Up to 90% of monthly salary for PCP training duration, capped at $6,000 per month, for Long-term Unemployed* Singapore Citizen (SC) trainees or Mature^ trainees

*Long-term Unemployed (LTU) is defined as being unemployed and actively seeking employment for six months or more. 

^Mature trainee is defined as being aged 40 and above



  1. To facilitate the programme under a Place-and-Train mode, participating employers will hire the participants before they commence training; and be required to provide structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) plans to ensure that participants hired will gain the necessary competencies for their new role.
  2. To encourage employers to take on mid-career switchers without the requisite experience or skills, funding support will be provided during a PCP conversion programme, consists of PCP training duration (classroom training delivered by SIRS, with structured OJT at the hiring company) and an additional period of retention equivalent to the training duration.
  3. Candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
    1. The candidate must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
    2. New PMET hires who have no more than three months of employment with the current company
    3. Have graduated from pre-employment training for at least 2 years (excluding National Service where applicable)
    4. The candidate must have managerial-level or equivalent experience in a non- related role prior to joining the PCP
    5. Trainee remains employed at the hiring company for a minimum duration equivalent to the programme duration, after passing all the required modules
  4. Participating companies must fulfill the following criteria:
    1. The participating company must be registered or incorporated in Singapore;
    2. the participating company must issue a valid employment contract; and
    3. the participating company must be able to provide structured on-the-job training for the candidate.
